Trigger Point Therapy as Part of Remedial Massage

Trigger points are hyper-irritable spots in the muscle fascia caused by postural strain and repetitive movement including sport activities. They maybe be irritated or perpetuated by other physical or psychological stresses. They can trigger both local and referred pain when pressed, and when active they can cause pain spontaneously. To diffuse trigger points, direct pressure is applied to the area. Releasing these trigger points calms the nerves and alleviates the discomfort.

Hunching over a computer in the workplace contributes to muscle fatigue and joint discomfort. Most people complain of back, neck and shoulder pain at some point in their lives. These problems can be exacerbated by poor workstation design, bad posture and sitting for long periods.

Remedial Massage can include trigger point therapy and is a great way to relieve pain and tension throughout body. The manipulation of soft tissue relaxes the muscle, improve joint mobility and enhances its range of motion. The techniques used depend on the location, severity and the type of pain, and can be customised for each client.
